Program Overview

New standards have been adopted in Alaska, and similar standards have been adopted nationwide with the Common Core State Standards. What are the implications for assessment and intervention within a Multi-Tier System of Support/RTI system? Join nationally-recognized expert Dr. Mark Shinn to hear the latest information about aligning the new standards with evidence-based interventions. One webinar will be reserved as a problem-solving session for participants.

Dr. Shinn's specific areas of expertise are frequent progress monitoring and screening of basic skills.

Program Content Description

Webinar 1: The New Standards: Implications for Assessment within RTI
With most states adopting the CCSS or new state standards, schools are perplexed about the implications for assessment in light of new tests. In some instances, schools are disengaging from the types of screening and frequent progress monitoring practices commonly employed in MTSS/RtI. This webinar will address the common issues that the new standards and RTI share with the idea that Curriculum-Based Measurement is both consistent with and complementary to the goals of the new standards and RTI.

Webinar 2: The New Standards: Implications for Intervention within RTI
Schools are perplexed about the implications for intervention in light of raised standards. In some instances, schools are disengaging from the types of increasingly intensive, evidence-based interventions commonly employed in RTI. This webinar will address national concerns that (a) raising standards without continuing to provide more intensive interventions, and (b) having teachers design interventions to align with CCSS instead of using evidence-based practices, may exacerbate rather than ameliorate out nation's achievement problems.

Webinar 3: Selecting Evidence-Based Interventions (EBI)
Everyone talks about EBI, but few persons systematically engage in practices to reach judgments about what interventions to use with their own unique student populations. This webinar will review guidelines for selecting increasing intensive basic skills interventions aligned to the needs of students in specific communities.

Webinar 4: Problem-Solving Your RTI Implementation
This webinar will specifically target the questions and concerns Alaska participants have about what and how they are doing with respect to their RtI implementation. A process will be created that allows participants to send their questions and concerns to Dr. Shinn who will organize them thematically and address them systematically to support Alaska implementation.
